We all know that business is slower than usual at the moment. And like life, business also has its ups and downs and sometimes you just got to go with the flow. But this is no excuse to waste time twiddling your thumbs waiting for things to happen.
This time can be used productively to get your house in order. The following list is a good place to start:
1. Check all equipment
Make sure all equipment is ready for use at a moment’s notice. Camera lens’s can be cleaned, film can be restocked and batteries charged. The same goes for audio equipment. This is also a great time to have vehicles serviced. Check the oil and water levels as well as the tire pressure (including the spare). The last thing you want is to break down before you have even reached the location!
2. Admin
Office admin and filing is dead boring and everyone hates it. But making sure your books are in order is very important. This will make your life easier in the long run, especially when SARS pays you a visit!
3. Team building
This step is crucial (and the most fun). A good production runs smoothly because the production team works well together. So take some time off to play pool or foosball and have some fun.
4. Learn new things
Media and technology change constantly so now is the time to keep up with what’s new. I recently learnt some interesting stuff about the difference between HD (High Definition) and SD (Standard Definition). For example, HD is usually composed of 720 vertical lines of resolution format or more, where as SD comprises of only 480 vertical lines.
Anything and everything can and does happen in this industry. And we have learnt from experience that it’s always a good idea be prepared for anything.
